Three playable classes — Defender, Archer, and Healer. Each with a distinct skill tree, item compatibility profile, and mechanical role. Defender holds choke points and reflects damage. Archer deals primary DPS with ranged abilities. Healer sustains the party with auras and targeted healing. All three are used in every effective party — no class is optional in the endgame.
v1.0.0 — Launch
Four years. One developer. The game that went viral within 30 hours.
Tangy TD launched on March 9, 2026 — a complete roguelite tower defense built from scratch in C++ by a solo developer over four years. Within 30 hours of launch, Cakez opened his Steam dashboard live on Twitch to find 3,676 copies sold. He became visibly emotional. The clip went viral. The rest is documented below.

LAUNCH
LAUNCH
8 Story Mode missions — Eight campaign maps with progressively escalating enemy density and map complexity. Each map introduces new enemy types and layout challenges. Not every map has a boss — some missions build toward the boss encounter. Completing all 8 missions unlocks Endless Mode.
LAUNCH
6 unique bosses — One boss per map arc, each with phase mechanics that require different strategies. Bay Harbour Butcher (Map 1), The Warden (Map 3), The Iron Warden (Map 4), Thorn (Map 5), The Hollow King (Map 6), and The Final Witch (Map 8). See the Boss Guides for phase-by-phase strategies on each.
LAUNCH
300+ node skill tree — Three class trees totalling over 300 unlockable nodes, inspired by Path of Exile's passive tree philosophy. Free respec at any time with no cost or cooldown. Skill points accumulate across all runs — even failed ones contribute to your total. The trees have enough depth that filling them fully requires significant playtime. See the Skill Tree Overview.
LAUNCH
90+ items at launch — The launch item pool included the Wand of Lightning, Iron Fortress, Healing Circle, Bleed Lance, Frost Wand, and all base class items. 8 additional items were added in v1.0.3. See the Item Tier List for the current full ranking.
LAUNCH
Endless Mode with global leaderboard — Unlimited wave survival mode with Steam leaderboard integration. Unlocks after completing Story Mode. Round number at death is your submitted score. The leaderboard resets are planned to coincide with major content patches. See the Endless Mode guides.
LAUNCH
Tower throwing — Tangy can pick up and throw any tower to a new position at any time during a wave. Core tactical mechanic — throw distance is determined by hold duration, not tap length. Towers continue attacking during flight. Facing direction determines throw vector. See Throw Mechanics in the Advanced Tips guide.
LAUNCH
Steam feature integration — Full Steam Achievements (8 at launch), Steam Cloud save sync, Family Sharing support. The low achievement count (8) was noted by players as limited relative to the game's content volume.

The Launch — What Happened
Tangy TD launched quietly. Cakez had built an audience on Twitch over four years of public development, but there were no publisher marketing campaigns, no influencer seeding, and no launch-day press coverage. The game launched and waited.
Known Launch Issues
Important — These Were Fixed in Later Patches
The following issues existed in v1.0.0 only. All were fixed within the first two weeks. Any guide, video, or strategy content dated before their fix dates is describing v1.0.0 behaviour that no longer applies.
Known Launch Issues (all fixed)
3 issues
FIXED v1.0.1
Catapults survive Bay Harbour Butcher death — The two catapults summoned at 65% boss HP did not die when the boss was killed. They continued firing indefinitely, destroying the player's towers even after a successful boss kill. In effect, killing the boss was not a win condition. Fixed in v1.0.1: catapults now die instantly when the Butcher falls.
FIXED v1.0.1
Endless Mode crash at Round 50+ — A memory error in the enemy spawn system caused a game crash for most players reaching Round 50 or higher. Runs could not be resumed. Fixed in v1.0.1. The known record run reaching Round 200+ took place post-fix.
FIXED v1.0.2
Instant boss pull on proximity — Walking Tangy near any boss's patrol zone triggered immediate full boss engagement with no warning or intermediate state. Accidental pulls during wave clearing were frequent and run-ending. Fixed in v1.0.2 with the introduction of the aggro meter system.
